Unit I

Unit II
Transistors: Bipolar Junction Transistor — construction, operation, amplification action, Common Base, Common Emitter, Common Collector configurations. Field Effect Transistor — construction and characteristics of JFETs, transfer characteristics, MOSFET (depletion and enhancement type), transfer characteristics.
Unit III
Operational Amplifiers: Op-Amp basics, Practical Op-Amp circuits — Inverting amplifier, Non-inverting amplifier, Unity follower, Summing amplifier, Integrator, Differentiator, Differential and common-mode operation, Comparators.
Unit IV
Digital Electronics: Number systems & representation, Binary arithmetic, Basic and universal gates, Boolean algebra simplification of Boolean functions, K-Map minimization up to 6 variables.
Unit V
Fundamentals of Communication Engineering: Signal representation and analysis, Electromagnetic spectrum, Elements of a communication system, Need of modulation and typical applications, Amplitude modulation and demodulation techniques. Introduction to Wireless Communication: Cellular communication, generations and standards in cellular systems, Fundamentals of satellite & radar communication.
